Clara is a personal task app for the Mac, run by Sorin Grecu (contact grecusorineugen@gmail.com). This page says what Clara reads from your Google account, why, where it is kept, and how to stop it and have it deleted.
What Clara reads from Google
Clara asks for Google access only when you connect Google Tasks or Google Calendar in the Mac app. Each connection asks for its own permissions:
| Permission | What Clara does with it |
|---|---|
Google Tasks, read and writehttps://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks | Reads your task lists and tasks (title, notes, due date, status, list, order and parent task) to show them in Clara. Creates, edits, completes, reopens, moves and deletes tasks only when you do that in Clara. |
Google Calendar list, read-onlyhttps://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.calendarlist.readonly | Lists your calendars so you can choose which ones count for meeting reminders. |
Google Calendar events, read-onlyhttps://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events.readonly | Reads, for the chosen calendars, each event's start and end time, title, status and whether you accepted it, to find when your meetings end and show your next meeting. Clara does not request attendees' names or addresses, and never changes your calendar. |
Signing in to Clara itself may use your Google account's name and email address to identify you. That does not give Clara access to your tasks or calendar.
Where it is kept
- Google Tasks: Clara's server reads your tasks from Google and keeps a working copy of their details in its database, with a log of recent changes kept for 30 days, so your Mac stays in sync. Your Mac keeps its own copy in a local database on that Mac.
- Google Calendar: your Mac reads calendars and events directly from Google and keeps them in memory only. They are never sent to Clara's server and are never written to disk. Only the time a meeting ended is used by Clara.
- Access tokens: the Google access and refresh tokens are stored in Clara's server database, separately for Tasks and Calendar, so Clara can keep your data in sync. For Calendar, your Mac receives only short-lived access tokens.
Clara's server runs on infrastructure the operator controls. Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
How Clara uses it
Google data is used only to provide the features you see in Clara: showing, syncing and changing your tasks, and reminding you at the end of meetings. Clara does not sell Google data, does not use it for advertising, does not use it to train AI models, and does not let anyone read it except to keep the service running or as the law requires.
Clara's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Stopping access and deleting your data
- Calendar: in Clara, open Settings › General › Meeting Breakpoints and choose Disconnect. Clara deletes its Calendar tokens straight away.
- Any Google access: remove Clara at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Clara can then no longer read or change anything in your Google account.
- Deleting what Clara holds: email grecusorineugen@gmail.com from the address you sign in with. Your Clara account, its stored Google tokens and its copies of your Google tasks are deleted within 30 days, and you get a reply when it is done. To remove the Mac's copy, quit Clara and delete the folder
~/Library/Application Support/Clara.
